The “Third Thursday Seminar Series” is a monthly series dedicated to addressing the needs of students. This series is part of the professional development opportunities offered.
This year’s sessions will include topics on: Team and Group Dynamics, Leadership as Opposed to Management, Importance of Interdisciplinary Work, “Keeping the Humanity in the Sciences”, etc. For some topics such as the networking, we have faculty research directly addressing that area. With the acquisition of two new staff members in the past few years who focus on student affairs related research and development, we are able to have facilitators for multicultural and leadership development initiatives. Each seminar would have roughly an hour presentation/talk and a 30-45 minute reception (preceding or following depending on the time).
Last year we had almost 300 different students attend Third Thursday seminars from across the university. As is apparent from the session topics and descriptions, a multitude of areas will be covered including: diversity inclusion, leadership development, building social capital, and career preparation. Each topic has a different presenter who specializes in the session topics.
